Sunday 20th July – Windsurf ** The Manor at Felixstowe – cloudy with rain:(

Foil – 18.21 knot max, 16.32 knot ave., 11.64 knot hour, 15.61 knot mile, 27.56 km., 11.77 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Bolt 5.5.

The forecast looked promising today with a good breeze from the south, then only spoke in the works was the showers which looked set all day and one thing I can’t stand is sailing in the rain! The wind picked up just as the first shower arrived but I decided to head down to Squiz Lane at The Manor around 11 and pretty miserable it was too but Al Wizz was on the beach rigging 7.5 for his 130lt. board so I decided to give it a try quickly setting up my foil board. With the wind around 18 knots I decided to give my 5.5 a go which was OK but in hind sight my 6.5 would have probably been better! With low water at 1.30 it was still wind with tide when I launched to join one windsurfer and 4 wingers, southerly here is probably not the best direction as it really chops up, I thought I was way under as I sailed away but managed to get going for a long run out keeping upwind to make sure I could get back easily, in fact I gained several groynes upwind so decided to have a long run downwind which was definitely the best run of the day, 4 miles down past The Dip where I saw another winger out, it was get fun sailing broad running down the swell! The beat back started OK even if a tad under especially in a big sea, I got past The Fludyers before the wind went patchy and I had to slowly sail back only flying in short bursts, with my swollen finger playing me up it was an easy decision to call it a day especially with more rain arriving! So I packed up and headed for, it was nice to get out of the wetsuit and into a warm shower!
PS – the day was not a complete washout after I got a pic on ITV’s About Anglia weather, got to love Chris Page:)
